Hello,
An introduction can be so many things; it is often a beginning a way for one to present themselves to others. So with that said I will introduce myself to this great community of photographers, for here I can feel that I am among others that think and see like myself.
My name is Jason Harris
(You can call me Jay, everyone else does) and I started shooting basic
photos back in 1999, I fell in love with digital photography during its
infancy and my first digital camera was a 2.1
MP Vivitar Vivicam (which met its death by way of a skill saw).
I was amazed how technology was bringing computers and the important task of capturing life’s moments together. Over the years I progressed and took photography course on many levels. I started shooting for the AP back in 2006, and since then my photos have really taken off. I am of a particular style but my photos always turn out "right".
Whether it’s a plane crash site, burning building, mountaintop vista, or just a flower in the spring sunset, I capture my images the way the world wants to see them.
I am a 31-year-old (young) man, I was born and raised in Maine (but have since traveled extensively) and I cannot ever get enough of the beauty of this state. I recently relocated to Sunny Florida because of my business and the desire to enter the wedding photography market. Although I will miss Maine and its beauty I am confident that the Keys will have their own beauty, which I can capture with my lens.
I own Life Through The lens Images out of Bethel Maine (Until recently). I don’t really specialize in any one type of photography but seem to find lots of work with models and event photography. I got my start in photography by doing photos as a freelance journalist, one thing led to another and before I knew it I was taking photos of the president, political figures, celebrities, and breaking news events.
If there is something going on I am usually on scene or not to far away with my camera. I love working big events (even better is when they are PAID) and they allow me to have experiences like sunset with Mariah Carey in NYC on her video shoot, see the world from a hot air balloon over Maine, stand on the deck as the shuttle lifts off, stand on the other side of the police/fire lines and be amongst the action.
Now all this has its dangers, I have been stabbed, hit by moving sports vehicles, stomped on in riots, burned clothing from falling embers in fire scenes, and of course its inevitable that I ALWAYS smell like a chimney at the end of it all.
The modeling side allowed me to explore a different side of creativity in the fact that now I was working with a real live person, unlike a burning building these beautiful people had feelings, emotions, and ideas of their own.
LTTLI has since grown and I continue to fall on the “double edged” side of photography between “work” and “play”, but through it all I continue to take photos. I never found myself conceited and know that what we do is truly a gift but I still would like to think that my captures are unique.
One thing I love so much about photography is when we get “to that level” we see that it is so much more then point and shoot, truth be told technology is making it easier to be “lazier” with our cameras, but it also opens up a whole new world for those of us who take the time to use it. I have gazed up at the sky for many years and now just recently I have started using technology (and some patience) to capture the sky with star trails.
Think about it, when was the last time you took a slow exposure on a tripod while rotating your zoom lens, try it its a neat little experiment. Or try driving (BE CAREFUL) and holding your shutter open for 1 minute, the image will be unique i assure you. Another neat (And not so dangerous) tip is to make your own panorama out of landscapes, all you need to do is remember to overlap by at least 25% to make sure the final stitch is even, and remember if using a tripod keep the camera level. But most of all have fun!
The truth is I am thrilled to be here and only hope D2 becomes larger, and more people can come to see that photography is not always about a camera, a person, or even its subject, but a combination of all these factors.
If you would like to “friend” me I would enjoy that, and if you wouldn’t mind commenting (good or bad) in a professional polite manner on my photos that would be great as well. If there is anything I can do to help here or assist in anything please do not hesitate to ask.
I will leave you with something I once mumbled and my ex decided I should write it down, while not often spoken it is the creed I live by, I hope that you may feel what I do every time I hear or read these words
"With the click of the shutter and the zoom of the lens, the moment is gone in an instant, but the memory will live forever, I am a photographer the world is my picture"
