This is a test center for people who want/need advice from our more experienced members regarding their photography. Whether you are not sure if an image is "worthy" of the main gallery, or you are experimenting with a new area of photography, this is the place to bounce ideas off of your fellow photographers. Don't be afraid to post images here. This is your "whiteboard" if you will.

I agree with Les, Use any lighting you already have. (I personally adore natural window lighting) You can soften any lamp by bouncing it on the wall, putting something on the lamp to soften the light, bounce any light with anything white or black, paper, clothes, furniture, shoe box... I would invest first on an external flash thingy personally...

Didn't even think about that (new topic) Les at the time. Sorry for the 'bump'. lol Purely an oversight on my part.

Oh I won't be dropping a load of money. If I had a load of money I wouldn't be asking for an inexpensive recommendation. ha! lol

Thanks for your ideas. I'll definitely keep them in mind. I actually already have reflector on my shopping list. Natural light is also something I plan to use as I get great sun in a couple of locations in the house in the afternoon. I guess I was mainly just curious as to what I should stay away from (halogen and so forth). Probably should have phrased it that way eh?

Just giving this a little nudge back up...

P.S. When I say small light I just mean one that isn't made for a Hollywood movie set. This is for my little home studio, nothing more. Thanks!

Can any of you recommend a good, inexpensive 'studio' light (continous tungsten or otherwise)? I'm getting more and more into/interested tabletop still life and plants and I think I want to get a smallish light to assist me. Thoughts/suggestions? Umbrella or no umbrella?

The strangest thing happened last night in PSE8. I was trying to recompose an image and 1/2 way through, the process stopped saying there was insufficent RAM. My new laptop has 4gigs of RAM and I don't have a lot running in the background (McAfee and a Seagate external HD, that's about it as far as I know, but I need to double check on that, obviously). I just thought it was very odd. Maybe I'll unplug the Seagate until I finish editing and then plug it back in, as it doesn't have to plugged in constantly. Any thoughts?

It does have a familiar ring to it, like that was the one he mentioned. Maybe that's what he meant by simpler. hahaha I will check it out though. I mean I'm still trying to learn how to use PSE8 and my camera, never mind adding in even more software. Good grief! lol
