Mao Upgrading a computer for the first time

I grew up with 2 geek computer geniuses: My father and my bro. Bummer for me, I didn’t inherit the geek gene. Guess that makes me the Cool one! Lol! Kidding aside, let’s just say I don’t know much
about computer but I’m very at ease with it.

Some time ago, I no

Masey Vancouver Night Photo Walk

Haven’t had the chance to get out and take some shots at night around Vancouver for a very long time. But thanks to this bizarre dry and freakishly warm (well 6 degrees celsius anyway) weather, I was able to "down tools" at work this afternoon and head straight out over the Granville Street Bridge to have a bit of a poke around down town. Visit my Blog for the full entry and photos: http://www.masey.com.au/20Continue

DAVID HOBCOTE KEEPING YOUR CAMERA FUNCTIONING IN THE ARTIC AND SUB ZERO TEMPERATURES WE ARE EXPERIENCING

Most SLRs cope remarkably well with freezing temperatures. I’ve had no problem using Canon EOS SLR cameras below zero for weeks on end, often down to -20°C and in extreme down to -30°C. This article is for those trying to keep such a camera going under expedition conditions, such as an icecap crossing or mountaineering expedition in the arctic: ie no power sockets, adverse weather, sleeping in tents on the ice and for a period of weeks. However much of the advice also applies to using a camera i… Continue

Masey Brackendale & Stanley Park Photo Walks

With some free time on my hands today, I connected with my friend Danielle and headed under clear blue skies for Brackendale, just past Squamish, BC. Brackendale is known for its population of Bald Eagles in the winter months of December and January, and having made the trip up to photograph the eagles back in 2007 and knew what kind of treat we were in for.… Continue

Mao My new Baby...

Voilà ! I bought my first DSLR after about 4 months of nagging everybody and I do mean EVERYBODY, browsing trough hundreds of websites and thousands of sleepless nights, I went to the store. I was in some kind of strange trance, trying to snap out of it to look more credible then a little girl buying a too expensive camera. I asked to hold the Nikon D90, D300s and the Canon 7D. (D90 just in case I wanted something more discreet) It's kind of intimidating being surrounded by other photographers… Continue

Mao Best Photos on the Web

A friend shared this link with me and it totally blew me away !!! http://1x.com/ It is a site with the best Artistic photography on the web. It's equally impressive than depressive... Their goal is to reunite images that have a render or a mood or something artistically special and out of the ordinary. These are the greatest Master's Shots I've seen up to date and in massive quantity. Warning : It may discourage you but on the contrary, try to not trow away your c… Continue

Ninette Nickerson Photography: How I express my interests

Some people use their photography to make a living. For some it is a source of relaxation and a hobby. For others, photography is another form of their artistic expression. There are other ways that photography can make a difference. My purpose for photography is all the above (except the money making one a t… Continue

Jim Cornish A short article on mushroom

One of my hobbies is writing. I have been writing non-fiction articles for a number of years. One feature on fungi was written specifically for Scouts and can be read online at: http://www.scouts.ca/media//documents/Oct07_p6-p9.pdf Continue

Brian Moseley Black and White

I love Black and White photography and think that is a lot more to it than merely converting a coloured image in software. I understand you have to see in terms of light and shade and black and white tones and that is not easy. I think I have found a modern master of the genre. His name is Nobuyuki Taguchi and if you go to this site, http://www.photo-visible.com/ and like Black and White photo's, you will be in for a treat. I am fairly new to D2 and have made a few kind friends here, so I will b… Continue

Mao A Farewell...

KIDDING !!! ;p At first when I joined, I was just curious. I was just being polite for the person who kindly thought of inviting me. Then, I saw the great portfolio here and said WoW ! I have something to learn from them ! The photographer are very talented and wise. They don't get stuck on "That's nice" or "what gear do you have" or "You got nice eyes, wanna chat ?" After only a few posts, I was surprise with the loads of "welcome" and comments. "Boy ! I found my public here ! I didn't know… Continue

T Turner Why Leave D2?

I feel the reason the members are balking at $20 is because they are getting very little from the the other members here. We, the members, make D2 into a good site or not. D2 chose each of us because they thought our work was a cut above your general clicker. I have a lot to learn and learning/growing comes from feedback (critiques) by other members. A pat on the head/back with GREAT SHOT and a reply THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENT does nothing. Why is the shot great? or how could it be made better?… Continue

T Turner Why Ad-free site?

Am I missing something here? Why is it so important to keep D2 ad free? I am on other sites with ads and they don't bother me in the least and they are not in the way. If income from ads help hold down the cost of membership then I am all for it. I don't want to start another Blog so I will say it here on this one. I would like for all of us to not delete a photo after you change it because someone made a good suggestion you agreed with. Leave the original post so we can compare the two and lea… Continue

Masey A Farewell

Hey Everyone... By now I think you all have received an email from the DD admin regarding a required membership subscription fee. I have enjoyed my time on the site, but simply don't use it enough to justify such an expense, so I'll be out of here at the end of the 30 days or whatever it is I have left. To the good friends I have made on here - David, Keith, Tracy, if you want to, you can keep in contact with me via my Blog http://www.masey.comContinue
